Our 3rd conference (24th – 27th April 2014) was generously funded by Awards For All. Due to the exceptional service from our 2012 event, we held our 2014 retreat at Thornton Hall Hotel & Spa, South Wirral.

24th April – Greetings and Dinner

After everyone checked into their rooms and familiarised themselves with the grounds we all dined a luxury 3 course dinner followed by football and games on the hotels grounds.

25th April – Conference

The medical advice came from professionals who very kindly participated in the following sessions:

Dr Steve Cunningham, Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician, Royal Hospital for Sick Children. Edinburgh.

Dr Cunningham kindly attended our conference to discuss the chILD EU FP7 grant. Details of the grant was given and how parents can enrol their child into the registry, which aims to provide future research into chILD.

Dr Callum Semple, Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool.

This fascinating and visual talk saw Dr Semple take families through the diagnostic stages of chILD focusing on procedures such as bronchoscopies. Taking parents to the surgical level, we witnessed a visual medical journey of the lungs and the risks and benefits associated with invasive procedures.

Clarissa Martin (Consultant Clinical Psychologist in Paediatrics), Midlands Psychology

This enlightening talk was about the psychological effects of living with a child with a chronic illness. Not only did Ms Martin discuss ways that we can help ourselves on our chILD journey but also how to handle your child if they have any behavioural or feeding issues.

Claire Bowe, Specialist Oxygen & Vaccinations Nurse, was very kindly on hand aside from the talks for new parents to discuss and provide information on vaccinations.
Rona Young (Dietitian) was kindly available to speak to any chILD families about nutrition and feeding.

Many thanks to our guest speakers for their time and support!

During the conference, the children were minded by The Mobile Creche Company. We thank the team for a wonderful service and keeping the children safe and occupied. After the conference all families met for a large barbeque, more sports and more bonding.

26th April – ChILD Trip to Chester Zoo & Party

Thanks so very much to all who helped organise such a memorable and fun weekend. Our 3rd retreat/conference was a great success and we would like to thank all of the families for attending and for the time of our guest speakers. We wish to thank our sponsor Awards for All for without them, the event would not have been possible.
